![]() Money will be an issue so get greece built up financially but don't worry about eastern expansion until the west is secure.Ĥ. ![]() An army with just a captain will not hold against a line of spear warbands, let alone attack it. ![]() Try to subdue the gauls first, while holding the germans and then run separate wars against the iberians and germans.įamily members are critical. Expanding into germania will leave you with big borders to defend though. Use a lot of missile troops against their spear warband because they have very low armour and cav to take out their supporting troops to leave the spear warbands alone and unsupported. Germans will be your toughest opponents in the early game. Be careful in greece as phalanx rebels will do bad things to your lovely horses.ģ. I always put "spare" family members into these type armies as they pick up great exp and good traits. This means you can keep re-training the units and because your overall numbers are small, you've a better chance of heroic victories as well as men of the hour! Make a few of these all roman cav armies as they will be important later on and the more exp they have, the more useful they will be. :-)Ī useful tip against rebels is to have small all cav armies purely for putting down rebels and auto-resolve battles. It might take a lot out of the original game but it means you can concentrate on the total war bit of RTW. Maintain minimum garrisons in cities away from the front line. The julii may still grab a province or two in spain but that is manageable.ĭon't worry too much about the islands. "Fence" the julii in by taking the gaulish provinces to their north. Their one mainland city is easy to grab plus they are a useful buffer against egypt. If they do, you'll have a hell of a civil war on your hands in vh/vh. You need to capture northern greece and stop them running riot all the way to asia. Other roman factions expand like crazy unless you "fence" them in. The 50 province rule doesn't apply with the senate and you need to conquer the world to win.ġ. I'm letting egypt get nice and strong to make this challenging. I've played as the senate quite a bit and am currently in the middle on a mundus magnus game as them and the plan is to take over the entire world. ![]() Want to add this to the strategy guide section? :-) Gaius Colinius's guide to conquering the world with the Roman Senate ![]()
